Sharks snap up an historic victory

SOUTHPORT are back where they belong after yesterday ending a 10-year premiership drought in the NEAFL grand final.

A season after finishing second last in the second-tier competition, the Sharks stormed to a 90-35 victory over Sydney at Fankhauser Reserve.

A crowd of about 2000 watched as the club that dominated state leagues for years finally claimed a NEAFL title. Spectators also turned out for local finals of rugby league, union and football across the weekend.
