Broadbeach’s Erickson takes out Grogan
MIDFIELDER Blake Erickson underlined Broadbeach’s stellar season by claiming the club’s first Grogan medal in more than a decade last night.
In a week in which the club advanced to its first QAFL grand final, the 25-year-old sealed victory with a two-vote performance in the final round to finish on 20 votes and edge out Palm Beach Currumbin’s reigning medallist Jason Burge on 18.
Brothers Brody (14 votes) and Cassidy (13 votes) Haberfield from Surfer’s Paradise and Erickson’s Cats’ teammate Matthew Fowler (12 votes) rounded out the top five.
Cassidy Haberfield also claimed the Syd Giuldford trophy as the competition’s MVP, voted on by the coaches.
The competition’s Rising Star was Western Magpie Riley Easton.
The QWAFL coaches’ MVP was Kate Lutkins of Wilston Grange, while UQ’s Natalie Grider was a worthy winner of the Rising Star.
