Man tells of car hit

-

JAMES Kelly has spoken of the moments before allegedly being run over by his older brother who is standing trial in the Southport District Court.

Cameron Kelly, 41, is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm at his younger brother’s engagement party almost two years ago.

Cameron is accused of dangerously driving into his brother, breaking bones in his wrist and leg at Tallai.

Under questioning from Crown prosecutor Michael Mitchell, James said he asked Cameron to leave because he had wrestled with another partygoer. The court heard James then approached his brother who was in a car outside.

James said an argument ensued and he kicked the car door twice. James said he remembered walking towards the party, hearing a car accelerate, turning and being hit.

Barrister Russell Clutterbuck, for Cameron, put it to James that he “jumped out” on to the road saying words to the effect of “just run over me”.

James denied this. The trial is set to continue today.
