RAINBOW RISES OVER TOP END FOR FESTIVAL OF PRIDE

-

RAINBOW celebrations will colour Darwin from tomorrow as Top Enders celebrate with the LGBTQI community for Pride Week.

Darwin Pride Festival committee member Kate Robarts said it was important to celebrate the first Pride Week after the “yes” vote last year.

“Last year we marched, this year we celebrate,” she said.

“The theme of the festival is unity and last year we really had a big drive on the ‘Yes’ campaign and great celebrations because of the yes result.”

Ms Robarts said there would be plenty of opportunity to embrace the LGBTQI community over the week.

“We’ve got the rainbow family day, the love boat party, an opening party and closing party … let’s just have a really good time.”

But it won’t be all fun and games with plenty of new and interesting ideas to explore.

“We have a workshop called transparent with transgender people, talking about their journey,” she said.
