Woman seriously injured in Whitsundays shark attack
A WOMAN was in a serious condition in Mackay Base Hospital last night after being bitten by a shark in the Whitsundays yesterday.
It is understood the woman was swimming next to a yacht moored near Sawmill Bay at Whitsunday Island when she was attacked.
An RACQ CQ spokeswoman said the woman, believed to be in her mid-30s, was first treated by a doctor who was on-board the yacht before emergency service crews arrived.
“The woman has suffered significant leg and torso injuries in the shark attack incident,” she said.
Emergency services received a triple-0 call from a boat on Cid Harbour.
The incident occurred about 5pm. The woman was winched aboard an RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter and transferred to Mackay.
