New school by stadium

-

A NEW secondary school will be built just metres away from one of the Gold Coast’s major sporting stadiums under plans ticked off by the council.

The private education facility will be operated by Arcadia College and will have capacity for 300 students.

The school, earmarked for a site on Centreline Place near Cbus Super Stadium, was approved yesterday by the council’s planning committee and will go before full council tomorrow to be ticked off.

If rubber stamped, construction will begin in coming months to be completed next year.

“This will cost ratepayers nothing but will deliver lasting social benefit for those students doing it tough in life,’’ Mayor Tom Tate said.

“I also encourage the universities, teacher graduates and others in the education sector to see how they can get involved to help this facility.”

The college charter is for a co-ed secondary school which will offer ‘a safe, inclusive and future focused education and well-being program’.

Arcadia College is currently based at Varsity Lakes and works with students who have faced personal hardship.
