Cronk gets a feel for club history

-

COOPER Cronk talks about Roosters legends Dally Messenger, Arthur Beetson, Jack Gibson, Russell Fairfax, Brad Fittler and Anthony Minichiello – and now wants to leave his own long-standing legacy.

Cronk has spoken passionately about the Sydney Roosters’ past and his responsibility to ensure its 110-year history is recognised, respected and then enhanced.

“It’s part of my responsibility to understand what the red, white and blue jersey means,” he said. “I am playing for a club that has more history than anyone. It’s pretty cool.

‘‘And I don’t carry that responsibility lightly.

‘‘Hopefully I can play a part in where the club is going.”

Cronk, the former Melbourne Storm star, has finished reading the book From Where The Sun Rises: 100 years of the Sydney Roosters.

It was a crash course in the club’s history and traditions.

Cronk knows he will need to call on the memories of past stars to drive his side into this season’s NRL grand final through victory over South Sydney on Saturday night.

“To move forward and be part of something, you have to know where you’ve come from,” he said.
