PLENTY OF TARGETS OUT THERE

-

HI everyone, hope you’ve all had a great week. The trick to finding fish this week has been dodging the wind which seems to be hanging around.

As school holidays kick off let’s have a look at a few options to get the kids out of the house and having fun.

It’s great to see heaps of families heading out with Coomera Houseboat Holidays to enjoy our fantastic local waterways. Customers reported some nice bream, whiting and flathead landed this week and they are a great target species for the kids to chase.

With so much technology at your kids’ fingertips it’s just nice to get back to basics and enjoy some quality time fishing either land-based, off a beach or jetty or in the boat.

Land-based fishing on the Gold Coast is very popular with younger kids off beaches and fishing platforms.

A basic kid’s combo with a running sinker rig will do the job, and prawns, worms and yabbies are great bait. The kids love pumping yabbies and you will find a large number of fish species to catch.

Some good spots to try are Coomera River, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Labrador, Biggera Waters, Southport, Marine Stadium, Nerang River and Jacobs Well. Good luck kids, make sure you send in your fishing photos.

Jason from Coomera Bait & Tackle managed to sneak out last Saturday morning early before the dreaded N/NW kicked in. He fished the Diamond Reef 24 fathoms off the Seaway for a great mixed bag of snapper, pearl perch, tusk fish, moses perch and good sized trag. His method was to sound up a good show of fish before anchoring up and getting a good burley trail going.

Floating WA pilchards and large whole squid baits out did the trick.

Customers have reported some good catches of whiting so far during September.

My mate Brett took his son Angus (see photo in report) for a fish up the Nerang River and came up trumps with a great feed of whiting. Well done young fella, great to see.

Generally the rivers like Logan, Coomera, Pimpama and Nerang will fish well this time of year, with worms and yabbies the best bait.

Clint from Brad Smith Fishing Charters has been casting the Broadwater area around Runaway Bay south to the mouth of the Nerang River using a mixture of soft and metal vibes this week. He has done well for his customers scoring a nice mixed bag of flathead, flounder, tusk fish, squire and whiting.

Good luck to all the teams fishing the Gold Coast Sport Fish Club Flathead Classic that kicks off Wednesday, September 26-28.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish.
