TRIP TO FIJI ADDS TO PBC’S WEEK OF HEAVEN

- CONNOR O’BRIEN @obrien_GCB

PALM Beach Currumbin league players will complete a dream fortnight when they travel to Fiji next week.

The Reds last week won the school’s first NRL Schoolboy Cup state title since 2014 and backed that up by defeating Patrician Brothers Blacktown 20-12 on Wednesday to end a decade-long national silverware drought.

On Tuesday, 21 of their players will head abroad for a seven-night Fijian tour that will involve an exhibition match and community engagements.

“We are going to go and help out in schools in one of the northern villages just to give the boys an experience and show them what they have been blessed with in terms of education and football facilities,” said coach Aaron Zimmerle.

Reds hooker Jed Edwards is looking forward to the trip, which he believes will be an eye-opener.

“I know a lot of the boys haven’t been out of Australia yet so for them to go over and see what life is like for other countries that aren’t as lucky as we are here will be good,” the 17-year-old said.

“We know they love their rugby league over in Fiji so we’re going to be working with the schools and playing rugby league and training with the team over there. It will definitely be something different to experience and I’m sure everyone will remember it for the rest of their lives.”
