FARMYARD FROLIC BRINGS FUN TO THE BROADWATER

- PEYTON HUTCHINS peyton.hutchins@news.com.au

GOLD Coast kids got a taste of true blue country life at Farmyard Fun in Broadwater Parklands yesterday.

The barnyard bonanza included displays of sheep herding, pig racing, horse and carriage rides, chick holding, sheep shearing, cow milking and a horse trick show.

A City of Gold Coast spokeswoman said the fun day was a way for children from urban areas get up close and personal with animals and experience farm life.

“It’s great to see people coming out and supporting events like this, it shows a lot of community support. And what I love is children coming out here and not only wanting to play with, but learn about livestock,” she said.

“It’s important for children to have these kinds of opportunities especially when it’s school holidays.

“We are also supporting our farmers along with local schools by purchasing bales – and what’s great is that the kids understand that these are livelihoods.”

A lone protester tried to get the fun day stopped and security was called after the woman began abusing those in attendance.

The Farmyard Fun Facebook group event page was also flooded with a series of comments calling for a halt to the fun day.
