TALKING to Norm Rix at the opening of Pimpama City Shopping Centre and he spoke of the irony re his new ‘baby’. “When I sold Ashmore City in 1998 I did so because I either had to redevelop it or sell it. I thought that as I was in my early 60s it would be too much. So here I am 20 years later and I’ve been working 12 hour days, seven days a week for the past six months but I am so proud of what we have achieved. Our first approvals came through in 2012 and today we have this magnificent shopping centre which will be a real boost to the area.” And the future? “I’m going to take a decent break — I think I’ve earned it,” he said with a grin.
