Injuries damage Bond’s first outing

-

BOND University will need to pull together to turn things around for the next round of the Queensland Premier Rugby 7s tournament.

It was a disappointing start for Bond, finishing ninth in Round 1, which kicked off on the weekend at the University of Queensland.

Coach Josh Fuimaono said a few last-minute injuries meant a “make-do” team took to the field.

“It was a learning curve for some of the starting players and I think it was overwhelming for them,” he said.

After strong training sessions, Fuimaono said the average start was unexpected.

“We didn’t play how we left off last year or have been playing in training,” he said.

After losing their first two games, Bond turned things around. The coach said the players started to work together during the third game and by the plate final for ninth place they had improved.

“In the last game we blew them off the park,” he said.

The next round is scheduled for Brothers Rugby Club on October 6.
