Win gives Rays hope

Vultures feel sting as Coast returns to form

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

THE Stingrays are back.

According to coach Dave Hill, the men have returned to the path to the top.

After a 71-6 trouncing of the Toowoomba Valley Vultures last weekend Hill couldn’t be happier.

“It was exactly the result we needed and were hoping for. It’s a launching pad into the rest of the season,” he said.

After a string of injuries the Stingrays’ chances at taking eight straight titles was rapidly diminishing having lost three of their first four games.

With injuries healed, the renewed team could finally prove what they’re made of and Hill wasn’t surprised by the result.

“We knew if we executed our game plan we could take advantage of the Vultures being a smaller team and take the win,” he said.

Hill said the team also made a good decision in picking up three new recruits to boost their defence.

“They were valuable in defence and put in a great effort, which is what we needed,” he said.

While Hill said the Stingrays played well, he commended the Vultures on their performance.

“They played right until the end,” he said.

“Full credit to the Vultures – they deserve respect for their effort.”

With a competition bye next weekend, Hill said the team had two solid weeks of practice and preparation before their Round 8 clash against the Bayside Ravens.

“The result against the Ravens in Round 1 didn’t show what we could do, but we can see the adjustments that need to be made,” he said.

Meanwhile, Stingray’s juniors continued their winning streak, defeating the Moreton Bay Raptors 28-8, the Colts annihilated the Vultures 50-0 and the women took the win 22-2 over the top-of-the-table Ravens.
