Early morn attempted carjacking

-

A GOLD COAST man claims he was rammed and chased by two cars during what he believes is an attempted car jacking at Elanora.

Shift worker Darren Amos was parking his car before work at The Pines Elanora, just before 5am Wednesday when he was approached by two cars full of men.

“They turned around and pulled up one car beside me and the other behind,” he said.

Mr Amos said there were at “least three men” wearing hoodies in the first car and more in the vehicle behind.

“They asked me the directions to the Palm Beach Surf Club,” he said.

“I thought it was strange so I wound up the windows and turned the car back on.”

Mr Amos said he the first car backed in closer to him as he tried to move his vehicle to another spot.

He was then rammed up the back by the second vehicle.

“They blocked me in, and then they drove into my car to try and stop me from leaving,” he said.

“I kept driving to find help or a place in public and then they chased me,” he said.

The Elanora local said he then drove onto K P McGrath drive to reach safety.

“I kept going and they tried to hit the back of my car,” he said.

“I gunned it along and he actually sped up onto the median strip as they tried to hit me again. It was pretty scary, but I was full of adrenalin.

“There were at least four guys maybe more, what am I going to do with four guys? “I didn’t want to stop.” Mr Amos said the drivers following him then turned off the road as soon as he reached the Caltex Service Station.

“As soon as I got to servo called the police, there were there in 10 minutes,” he said.

“You don’t know what they were going to do if I didn’t get away, they could of stabbed or shot me, how was I to know?”

The man said he had worked in the area for over 15 years and hasn’t once felt in danger.

“I’ve never had this problem, it was frightening,” he said.

Police have confirmed they are investigating a hit and run incident.
