SUNSETS SHED LIGHT ON FUTURE
THE Gold Coast Sunsets have been crowned the AFL Queensland Under-17 Youth Girls State Champions for 2018.
The Sunsets’ win is a positive sign for the Gold Coast AFL club, which will field a team in the AFL Women’s competition from 2020.
The Gold Coast beat the North Queensland Kookaburras in a wetweather grand final in Maroochydore yesterday.
Queensland’s next generation of AFL stars were on display at the AFL Queensland youth championships, which also featured under-14 boys and girls divisions.
For the first time, different age groups were combined into one event over five days on the Sunshine Coast.
More than 500 players representing teams from Queensland, NSW and Papua New Guinea took part in the event.
