Drunk driver had ‘a lot of beer’

A WOMAN in her 60s was so drunk she could not stand up when police found her behind the wheel in Labrador, a court has been told.

Dale Margaret Amos, 64, then refused to give a breath test when police spoke to her about 6pm on August 22.

She instead told police officers she had “a lot of beer”.

Amos pleaded guilty in Southport Magistrate­s Court yesterday to one count of failing to provide a breath specimen.

She was placed on a 12month good behaviour bond and disqualifi­ed from driving for eight months.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Nicole Jackson said CCTV footage of Amos at the police station showed she could not stand on her own and kept falling down.

Defence lawyer Sunil Dutt said Amos was only reversing out of the driveway for someone else to drive.
