Two knife wounds in one day

- NICHOLAS MCELROY

A WOMAN accused of hospitalising her former partner twice in the same day after taking to him with a knife on two separate occasions has been denied bail.

The 31-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, applied for bail in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday.

She is charged with grievous bodily harm and wounding following the alleged knife attacks in November last year.

Police allege the woman’s former partner’s little finger was cut so badly that the pair drove to hospital for medical treatment after an argument.

After their returned from hospital they fought again and the woman allegedly screamed at him, grabbed a 15cm knife and cutting his hand so badly it required surgery, the court was told.

A month later, police allege the woman broke a police protection order by going to her ex-partner’s home in a drunken state while a warrant was out for her arrest.

After speaking to the man’s roommate she allegedly went to her ex-partner’s bedroom, woke him up and became involved in another confrontation with him.

When the roommate walked into the bedroom he found the woman with her hands around the man’s neck as he appeared to try and push her away, the court heard.

Police said the woman was on parole at the time and escaped arrest for about eight months before she was caught at an airport.

The matter was adjourned to today.
