Hillcrest’s high mark in bid for state glory

- with Joel McInnes

CHAMPION SCHOOLS THE best teams in the state last week took part in the Champions Schools competition.

For the boys, powerhouse Hillcrest Christian College (sixth) and TSS (12th) competed in Division 1. Marymount College (fifth) and Varsity College (third) did well in Division 2.

For the girls, it was an indication of the strength of the talent on the Gold Coast with four teams in the championship division.

Upper Coomera State (12th), PBC State (eighth) and Southport State (fifth, with Dave Claxton returning to coaching) all impressed. TEAM OF THE WEEK The highlight for Gold Coast teams was the Hillcrest Christian College making it to the state final, only to go down to St Margaret Mary’s College 64-47. The Hillcrest girls should really be in the final for the next four years with the wealth of talent at the school.
