Tomic rebuild growing legs

GOLD Coast tennis star Bernard Tomic has saved a match point to reach the quarter-finals of the Chengdu Open, a top tier ATP event.

The 25-year-old won 7-6 (5), 2-6, 7-6 (6) over 129th-ranked South African Lloyd Harris who earlier knocked out French star Gael Monfils.

Tomic saved match point in the final set tie-breaker when Harris – who pounded down 23 aces – was up 6-5 with two serves to come. Tomic won both points on the Harris serve and then duly served it out.
