NO TWO WAYS ‘BOUT IT FOR BOXING PRODIGY

- CONNOR O’BRIEN @obrien_GCB

He will jet off to the US next month for an experience that is expected to hold him in good stead for the future.

“I just wanted to give him a trip and give him the exposure of where the best are,” said Gold Coast PCYC coach Jay Toope. “He follows a lot of the good kids over there on Instagram and there’s a good kid at Floyd Mayweather’s gym.”

Ingram is hoping to spar Mayweather’s protégé, Curmel Moton, and will spend time training in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

He also has two fights lined up in the LA suburbs of Carson and Riverside.

“It will be pretty good experience, especially at his age, but he’s at that level where I could take him over there and put him in with any of the kids and he’ll be OK,” Toope said.

“He would be the best under-40kg in Queensland.

“He’s only young. If he keeps going the way that he is, he will get many trips in the future.”

Ingram started boxing four years ago; “my parents got me into it to get me more disciplined,” as he puts it.

“Having Jay as a role model for him has been massive,” Ingram’s mother Mary added. On top of playing league for Burleigh, he trains for boxing four to five days a week and admires Gennady “GGG” Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez.
