Moyes rolls into AFLW career with Dockers

-

FORMER Gold Coast Rollers basketballer Brianna Moyes has signed a rookie contract with the Fremantle Dockers for the 2019 AFLW season.

Moyes, 27, left the Rollers after the 2016 Queensland Basketball League season to join Perth Lynx in the WNBL.

The 170cm pocket rocket switched to football this season and starred for South Mandurah’s inaugural women’s team in the Peel competition.

She booted 17 goals, including six in one match, from her seven games and played a key role in spurring the club to a grand final berth.

“I’ve always loved footy and taken a keen interest and it wasn’t until this year that it became an option for me,” Moyes said.

“I used to kick the footy around in the backyard with my dad – he built wooden posts and painted them white.

“And now (to be on an AFLW list) it is just a dream come true.”

In addition to being an exciting talent, Moyes fits the Dockers’ nautical theme, working on the Fremantle docks.

“I work as a stevedore, driving the trucks under the cranes and I also work on the ships,” she said.

The Dockers have also signed ex-Perth Glory football player Angelique Stannett, 21, to rookie contract.
