Salt’s vision for SE Qld focus for lunch event
LEADING demographer and social researcher Bernard Salt will deliver his vision for the future of southeast Queensland at a special lunch event in Brisbane on October 23.
Mr Salt has undertaken extensive population, infrastructure and liveability research which can help shape planning and funding decisions for the region over the next 25 years.
His exclusive report will be revealed as part of News Queensland’s Future SEQ campaign, which launches on October 9, and will be delivered live at the event lunch at the Royal International Convention Centre.
Scott Smith, CEO of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) which is a supporting the campaign, said collaborative planning was critical for our region.
“Sustaining current levels of urban growth within a constrained city environment is not viable, and can only be successfully addressed through a regional approach,” he said.
“To manage growth sustainably, we need a dispersion of population, increased employment and affordable housing, within a reasonable travel time between home and work.
“This is only achievable through collaboration and consideration of how settlement and job growth is shared across a diverse but connected southeast Queensland.”
Mr Smith said it wasn’t too late for southeast Queensland to get its future planning right and avoid the population issues plaguing southern states.
