Full steam ahead in Jet Train return
EXPECT to see Jet Train back at the Gold Coast Turf Club before long after the mare clinched her maiden win in the $15,000 Maiden Plate (1400m).
The four-year-old was not scheduled to run at Bundall on Saturday before a change of plans was called for.
“She was going to Ipswich last Wednesday and they were called off,” explained trainer Kelly Schweida.
“There was a broken sprinkler or something after the winner’s post so they didn’t go ahead with the meeting, so I decided to go to the Gold Coast.”
That marked a return to the site of her previous run a fortnight earlier, when a possible win turned into fourth place as interference struck.
“It was a really good run the start before, she was really unlucky,” Schweida said.
“A horse fell earlier on in the race and it really inconvenienced her at about the 800 down the run and she had trouble getting out and moving a run around the loose horse.
“It was a really good effort; she was really hindered. We thought she’d run well.
“Luke Rolls rode her last time and he was pretty confident that she would be able to win.”
Jet Train took a wide path down the home stretch on Saturday, which Schweida indicated was planned to ensure she had a clear run this time around.
“She only won by a nose but we’ll take it,” he said.
“She came home strong. She has got an unusual pedigree. She has got a staying pedigree on her father’s side and a bit of a sprinting pedigree on her mother’s side.
“But look, it was a well-deserved win because she had no luck the start before.”
Schweida added Jet Train would keep heading to provisional tracks to work its way through the grades.
“More than likely (we’ll next be) at the Gold Coast,” he said. “She seems to like the Gold Coast.”
