ALL EYES ARE ON THE SIDES IN BACON-LOVING NATION

-

WOULD you like bacon with that?

When it comes to ordering brunch at the local cafe, it seems for many Victorians the answer is a resounding “yes please”.

Almost four out of 10 Victorians add a side of bacon to brunch, while a quarter like to add a side of sourdough toast to go with their eggs.

Hash browns and avocado are also high on the list of side dishes diners add to an order, with Victorians on average spending between $6 and $10 on these extra dishes.

Research commissioned by restaurant booking platform Open Table shows Aussies are fussy eaters, with almost half of all diners requesting to change a dish on a menu.

One in four Victorians admit to personalising dishes most of the time or always, but only one in five have a dietary requirement to do so.

The rise of eating restrictions and exclusionary diets means that cafes are increasingly cooking bespoke dishes.

Owner of South Yarra’s Gilson Jamie McBride said it was especially common with younger diners.

“It’s no problem for us. We’re happy to accommodate people’s needs,” he said.
