SAVVY TEEN EARNS PICK OF 140 JOBS

- KIRSTIN PAYNE

MERMAID Beach boy Christian Gardner needed just one job to kick off his career, but instead he was offered more than a hundred.

Prompted by his father, the former Robina State High School student set out to get work the old fashioned way, and soon found his phone exploding with calls from perspective employers.

Sick of handing out his resume with no response, he decided to display a poster around the neighbourhood.

It read: “I am fit and strong, and I am looking for work. I have my white card, steel cap boots and have completed by certificate 1 in construction. Happy to give just about anything a go.”

“They were up for about three days when someone shared it online, then it just went wild,” Christian, 16, told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“I had over 140 calls – people were offering me technician work, carpentry and even something at Movie World.”

That same week, Christian secured a construction job installing solar panels with First Choice Solar, and loves the work.

“It is great they gave me a go, my boss even comes and picks me up for work,” Christian said. “He is really good at teaching me.”
