Victim slapped about head for saying ‘hey, bro’

-

A “THUGGISH” Gold Coaster shoved a man and slapped his head twice because he said “hey, bro”, the Southport Magistrates Court has been told.

Reed Tom Davis, 22, claimed he was provoked by the man who was mocking his Islander heritage.

Davis, pleaded guilty yesterday to assault occasioning bodily harm.

Magistrate Pam Dowse gasped when CCTV footage from the incident, at the Underground Nightclub in Surfers Paradise about 3am on June 3, was played to the court.

“You are really a problem when you are out and drinking and not following the rules,” she said. “It was very thuggish.

“That is unacceptable in the extreme … you were much bigger than the other fellow.”

Ms Dowse fined Davis $1500 for the slaps, ordered he pay the victim $500 compensation and perform 40 hours community service.

The man had been in the smoking area when Davis walked up to him and the man said “hey bro”, the court heard.

Davis replied: “What did you say?”

The court was told the man said “hey bro” once more before Davis pushed him and slapped his head twice.
