OFF THE RECORD

-

IT WAS an era when pina coladas, getting caught in the rain and making love at midnight were all the rage.

Of all her nocturnal encounters during that time the one she remembered long after it was over most was a suave, slightly older man who she said was the love of her life. Fast forward to the present and she saw him again in a local shopping centre. “Fabio (not his real name) it’s so good to see you again after all these years,” she gushed.

Seeing the look of puzzlement on his face she told him her name and recounted blow for blow their loving encounters.

Still not a flicker of recognition so, somewhat crushed, she went back to her shopping. Proving once again that all cats are black in the dark.

HOSPITALITY by definition is primarily the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests.

What then to make of the actions of one so-called leader in the field who went out of her way to be as rude as possible to people she considered to be her inferior.

Dismissive and condescending, she was determined to show that she was not in the business of being friendly or generous to anyone.

Weird, really, because it was not that long ago that she was way down the totem pole in terms of status.

TIME is supposed to heal all wounds but not in this case when a reunion of old workmates gathered to recall the good old days.

All was sweetness and light but as the day grew longer and the alcohol went further some snaky comments were heard between two of the guests. Apparently it had something to do with one of the women “poaching” a boyfriend off another way back when and the loser had never forgotten or forgiven.

It all ended unsavourily with accusations and slurs being hurled between the pair. Sheesh, all that fuss over a man.

SPEAKING of true love, one well-to-do dame has struck it richer by hooking up with a mega-wealthy foreign chap she met by chance on a cruise.

It is a fitting reward for her because for many a year she has been chased by every ne’er do well around town.

Clever girl that she is, she rejected all the local Lotharios because, as she explained to friends, she didn’t want to be a nurse or a purse.

Now her life is about to be an endless summer of luxurious living as she travels the globe arm in arm with her new love.
