Softening laws on teen crims a grave error of judgment

-

REGARDING the recent case of a young Queensland policeman knocked down and left fighting for his life in hospital by a 16year-old repeat car thief who was only released from court the previous day for a similar offence.

When will the Premier do something about this escalating youth crime?

It was only a short while ago that Annastacia Palaszczuk made the huge blunder of softening the criminal laws, meaning nobody will be sent to an adult prison if they are under the age of 18.

Yet the public are demanding to have the adult prison sentencing age dropped down to 16, simply because today’s youths are committing far more hideous crimes than adult criminals are.

The timid Premier needs to understand that 16-year-old males can also inflict physical pain on another person, just like any adult males can.

If you ever have any spare time, go and sit in Southport’s courtroom as an observer like I have, and watch the revolvingdoor young criminals being set free, all walking out laughing at Queensland’s pathetic justice system.

Since the departure of the tough Newman LNP, and the arrival of the Palaszczuk Labor Government, youth crime has escalated out of control.

A wise vote to rid yourselves of Labor at the next state election is critical. KEN WADE, TWEED HEADS
