GYM’S NEW HOME WORTH THE WEIGHT

- ALISTER THOMSON

A GYM has bulked up its presence in the fitness marketplace after leasing new premises in Bundall.

Never Quit Fit Factory, run by Nathan and Emily Couper together with Ian D’Andrade, has taken a five-year lease for 382sq m at 82 Bundall Rd with a five-year option at $170sq m.

Mr Couper said he had been forced to look for new premises when plans were unveiled to demolish the gym’s old base at 51 Upton St.

He said the search, which started in October last year, had been a long and frustrating one until Colliers International’s Marlon Crawford contacted him about premises at 82 Bundall Rd.

“He called and said he thought 82 Bundall Rd would be perfect. He read out the specs and I said, Mate when can we get there?”

Mr Couper said the new premises, which contained quadruple the old floor space, and triple the equipment from Coast company AlphaFit, had been a hit with members.

“In the six-and-half weeks we have been open we have attracted 50 new members,” he said. He said a billboard had been erected to direct members to the gym, which can be accessed off Bundall Rd, down a driveway shared with Amber Tiles Bundall.

He described Never Quit Fit Factory as “not a supermarket gym”. “We don’t have airconditioning (the gym has fans) and our members can’t use mobile phones or headphones on the gym floor,” he said. “We feel that when you are in the gym you are here to work out.”

Mr Crawford, who negotiated the latest lease, also negotiated for furniture retailer Contemporary Classics to move into a 410sq m space at 82 Bundall Rd.

One 185sq m office space remains for lease upstairs.

The 82 Bundall Rd property is owned by S & D George Investments Pty Ltd, linked to Brisbane investors Simon and Damian George. It paid $3.35 million for the property in June last year.
