Swordsman arrested
AN 18-year-old man is due to face Tweed Heads Local Court today after threatening to kill police with a sword during a dramatic stand-off at a Murwillumbah motel last night.
At 6.10pm police were called to a hotel in Murwillumbah after a man was allegedly heard yelling that he was going to kill someone.
The man allegedly became aggressive and locked himself in a room with a samurai sword and metal pole while threatening to kill police.
Police negotiated with the man for two hours, eventually using capsicum spray to subdue him.
The man was charged with intimidation, malicious damage, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assaulting police and using a weapon to avoid arrest.
