FRANCESCA’S FIT LIFE BEGAN AT 50

Away from work she has managed to undergo a quite remarkable physical transformation.

“It started when I was around 50 and my son mentioned menopause and putting on weight, bad posture and being fragile,” said Francesca. “I love ballroom dancing but finding partners was difficult so to stay healthy I signed up for a 12-week challenge at a gym. When it was over my trainer suggested that I have a go at body building.

“At 52 I had never even worn a bikini before and my family laughed out loud when I mentioned it but my youngest son said I had nothing to lose so I went ahead. I started weight training and cardiovascular work and to my amazement I started collecting trophies and got to compete overseas. This has helped me to feel more energetic and be in better shape than when I was in my 20s. It is amazing what human bodies are capable of and I could actually see myself changing in the mirror.

“I am now 56 years old and last week I won the NAABA/ WFF Bikini Model competition in the Over 30 division held at Southport RSL.

“The process has taught me to accept the fact no one is perfect but I am progressing and becoming a better version of myself.”
