Hot-shot Scott still weighing up future

- TOM BOSWELL AND ANTHONY WINGARD

GOLD Coast remain in the dark on the position of top draft prospect Bailey Scott, who says he will hold off on making a decision about his future until after his university exams.

The Suns academy player, who also has father-son links to Geelong and North Melbourne through father Robert Scott, said he was still weeks away from deciding what club he wanted to join after attending last week’s AFL draft combine.

“It’s coming along. The plan has been to get through the under-18s and NEAFL and now combine while still keeping up with my uni,” Scott said. “Once I get through the busy period, I’ll get the chance to sit down and talk to those important to me about the decision and then go from there.

“Once the time to make the decision is right, I’ll make one. The clubs have been really good in just letting me go about my business.

“It’s been really good and I really appreciate the clubs leaving it to me and understanding just how big of a decision it is to me.

“I haven’t felt pressured or rushed to do everything.

“The clubs have been really good with just supporting me with wherever I choose to go.”

Scott recorded the fifth highest standing vertical jump (68cm) and 12th best running vertical jump on his left foot (84cm) at the combine in Melbourne. The midfielder represented the Allies in the national under-18 championships, averaging 23.8 disposals, and spent time playing with the Suns NEAFL side.

The under-18 All-Australian was also named the Suns Under-18 Player of the Year in September.

Scott is regarded as a skilled on-baller who can play at half-forward and finish well in front of goal.
