Pair united in belief

Experienced duo to return for Surfsiders

EXPERIENCED duo Eloise Fryer and Deeanna Thompson have put an injury-disrupted 2018 NPL Women’s season behind them to resign with Gold Coast United.

Leg complaints restricted attacker Thompson to just 11 appearances for United this year and defender Fryer featured even less, pulling on the white four times in the club’s run to sixth spot.

The lack of competitive appearances was extra motivation for both players to put pen to paper with the Surfsiders for 2019.

“Ellie and I are super keen to work on the team’s great progress from last season,” Thompson said.

“We both want to be a part of creating an amazing club culture and are super keen to get trials and pre-season under way.”

Pre-season has already begun for Thompson after spending two weeks trialling with Canberra United’s WLeague squad, with the Mullumbimby junior sharing a football journey with Fryer that stretches back to their days playing in the Northern Rivers.

United coach Michael Cook said he was “over the moon” to have the pair return after signing them from Souths United.

“These two wonderful players, and even better people, are among the best in the league. Their agreeing to play again with United shows they are buying into the great plans and future that the club has,” Cook said.

“Ellie is like a brand new, first class signing for us. (She’s) determined to be stronger than ever.”
