Bay openers cash in

RUNAWAY Bay openers Steven Baker and Liam Denniston cashed in on the opening day of the Kookaburra Cup season on Saturday, smashing an unbroken 277-run stand against Palm Beach Currumbin at Nerang RSL Oval.

Palm Beach were left to rue their decision to send the home side in as Baker (136 not out) and Denniston (125 not out) both registered centuries.

It was a role reversal at Sam Loxton Oval, where the bowlers dominated in Mudgeeraba Nerang’s (all out 79) battle with Runaway Bay (9-106).

Stuart Frost took 6-25 for the Seagulls, while Rhys Finn nabbed 5-25 for Mudgee.

Surfers Paradise will resume at 4-111 at home to Alberton Ormeau.
