SUNSET SESSIONS

With 22 beers on tap and a magic view, this new waterfront venue is all about appreciating the art of craft, writes Amber Macpherson

WHEN the sun dips towards the water alongside Paradise Point’s newest restaurant and bar, the golden amber hues match the tones of perspiring pints of craft beer.

Overlooking the Coomera River, Brewed Brewery capitalises on magic sunsets as a drawcard for locals to wind up the day with food, drinks and entertainment.

Since its opening on September 29, manager Leigh Sanders says the venue has tapped in to the afternoon and evening market in the canal community.

“There was a niche here that hadn’t been hit — to really take hold of the night-time dining,” Leigh says. “There are places that hold the tone on the breakfast and lunch scene. It’s night dining that we wanted to do.

“We’re really hitting a market we believe that’s not been touched yet.”

Northern Gold Coasters may be familiar with Brewed Addictions, the venue’s caffeinated counterpart established five years ago next door.

Leigh says opening Brewed Brewery allowed the staff to focus on creating a menu of unique share-style plates for relaxed, lounging diners.

He says a team of expert chefs, including two from the kitchens of Heron Island and Palazzo Versace, produce sophisticated tapas meals.

“We’re not about a sit down and dine in, it’s more about what fine dining is going towards at the moment — casual eating bringing everyone together,” he says.

“It’s American style food refined. We’ve got massive 1kg ribs. We’ve got the Port Lincoln kingfish, high-end wagyu beef, and mac and cheese that we call mac daddies.

“And there’s cheeseburger spring rolls — everything you can imagine in a cheeseburger, pickles, tomato relish, three different cheeses, so it is stringy when you bite into it. It’s a winner.

“Tapas is our main thing. And desserts — we’ve got a Ferrero Rocher ice cream sandwich. It’s bringing that funkiness back to food.”

With 22 craft beers on tap, you won’t need to venture to far-flung corners of the Gold Coast to taste the labours of local brewers. Brewed Brewery pours drops from Burleigh’s Black Hops Brewery, Tweed’s Pickled Pig, Currumbin’s Balter Brewing and Byron’s Stone and Wood, as well as other niche Australian alcohol crafters.

“We’re working with local breweries. We do a lot of tastings, to see who’s doing what,” Leigh says.

“We’re having a pop-up dinner collaboration with Black Hops, which will be a monthly occurrence. We’ll do different partnerships and wineries from the Gold Coast and Australia.”

While the venue’s main attraction is alfresco dining on the water, inside diners are treated to an industrial chic decor, featuring a grand piano and the all-important keg room.

“We’ve got this massive keg room in the middle of the restaurant that everyone can see,” Leigh says.

“There’s brick and exposed copper pipes running to our 22 taps. It’s like a New Orleans corner. We have live music two times a week, and every two weeks we get different pianists to go with our acoustic music player.”

Brewed Brewery is open from 11.30am until late, Wednesday to Sunday at 4/4 Marina Promenade, Paradise Point
