CHIPS in a milkshake and Nutella on fries?

It may sound like a toddler’s dream birthday spread but it’s actually some of the cuisine on offer from a new Gold Coast food truck.

Food or Somethin’ taps in to the secret food fantasies that we dream of but would dare not indulge in, combining salty chips with chocolatey dips, twominute noodles on burgers and fried chicken with macaroni and cheese.

The brain child and side project of Coast photography business Florence James Collective, co-owner Huzi Koya says the truck was devised after years of photographing other venues’ food. “My partner and I are food photographers and we’ve travelled around Australia taking photos at cool restaurants and cafes,” Huzi says. “We took inspiration from those places.

“We created things that we’d like, things that we knew the Gold Coast was missing.

“Something that challenges peoples’ tastebuds, things that go together that you wouldn’t normally see.”

The combinations may sound bizarre, but Huzi says they’re simply taking sweet and savoury to the next level.

“It’s like salted caramel has blown up in the past few years. That’s salty and sweet,” he says.

“The Nutella and fries, we were a bit on the fence about it. Once you try it, it’s honestly mind blowing. It could be the next thing to blow up.

“Another one we have is the chip and dip thickshake. We noticed as kids we would dip our chips in our milkshakes.

“Southern fried chicken and macaroni and cheese goes together anyway, so we thought we’d put it on a burger.

“The Noodie burger is a beef patty with noodles on it.

“We also have a fairy god shake — strawberry bubblegum milkshake with Persian fairy floss and gold cream wafers.”

After its debut at Southport’s Food Fantasy Festival on the long weekend, Huzi realised their customer base wasn’t as young as he expected.

“After our first food stall, we noticed everyone was an adult. From the get go, everyone loved the food.”
