BEER CUTS THE CARBS
If you’re watching your waistline, give this new Coopers a go (and maybe lay off the chips and peanuts)
LOW-CARB brews are in demand from health-conscious beer lovers. It may not come as a surprise that statistics show many women who are concerned with their partners’ wellbeing are making the switch on their behalf.
Recognising this, Coopers Brewery has come up with a new addition to its range. Coopers Dry is a low-carb lager aimed at challenging established brands on the market. I have to confess that I don’t choose my beers on the basis of carb content, but I know a lot of people who do.
I tend to think it’s what you eat or the volume of brew you consume that has more to do with any adverse influence on the waistline, but if you are looking at the numbers you’ll be happy to know Coopers Dry provides only 103 calories per 355ml stubbie.
This dry lager is a clear, light golden-coloured brew with a frothy head and a malt nose.
It has a crisp and clean flavour with a degree of lingering bitterness that makes it well-suited for warm weather.
While it’s more interesting than some of the other drys on the market, it’s not a game changer. As a fan of the more established Coopers beers, I found it a bit wanting. That said, if you’re looking for a brew without a strong beer flavour or you’re an occasional drinker, it’s worth trying.
At 4.2 percent, it is a fullstrength beer. As you’d expect from a low-carb recipe, it doesn’t sit heavy in the gut, so you can enjoy a few and feel like you are doing the right thing.
It’s a very social beer, looks classy in the clear stubbies and will no doubt be a popular party guest this summer. “IT HAS A CRISP AND CLEAN FLAVOUR WITH A DEGREE OF LINGERING BITTERNESS ...”
