Mixed pair in second victory

DEE-ANNE Robertson and Sean Ingham have won backto-back Queensland State District Mixed Championsh­ips.

In a remarkable feat they won through district, zone and then the state title at the South’s Suburban Club in Mackay, putting the tally at 22 undefeated games for the Broadbeach pair over two years.

Helensvale Ladies have won through to the State Pennant Finals after they defeated Victoria Point in the Zone 1 playoff at Belmont Services Bowls Club.

Helensvale’s Division 5 men won the South East Queensland Championsh­ips on the weekend at Musgrave Hill.

Gold Coast Tweed District Men’s Pairs is down to the semi-finals after five rounds finished on the weekend. Defending champs Matt Lucas and Nathan Rice take on Max Jaffray and Kurt Brown in one semi; Dale McWhinney-Shillingto­n and Eric Johannes play Paul Staggard Jnr and Ian Law in the other, to be played at Tweed Heads at a date to be finalised.

Queensland performed well in the recent Australian Junior Championsh­ips at Capalaba.

They won the best performed girls team, finishing with singles silver, pairs bronze, triples bronze and fours gold.

The boys finished third behind Victoria after claiming triples silver and fours bronze.

Queensland was second overall, only one game win behind Victoria.

Broadbeach have announced their inclusion in the Ultimate Bowls Challenge (UBC) to start in April.

The UBC also announced dates and venues for the new innovative competitio­n: April 4-5 at Warilla, NSW; August 15-16 at Deer Park, Victoria; and December 12-13 at Moama, NSW.
