Champs come out firing

-

DARCEE Garbin says the Townsville Fire are happy to wear the favourites tag, but she believes their competition looks as strong as ever following yesterday’s WNBL season launch in Sydney.

Beaten grand finalists Melbourne have lost superstar Liz Cambage, but they will still have four Australians Opals on the floor this season, including former Fire forward Cayla George.

Canberra have also been aggressive in the player market after signing Kelly Wilson from Townsville, along with Leilani Mitchell and Kelsey Griffin, as they seek a longawaited return to the finals.

“I think we’re always just as hungry,’’ Garbin said.

‘‘Hopefully we have the team together to go back-toback.’’ Champions the Fire are chasing their fourth title in five seasons.
