Andrew’s out after knee injury

-

A FREAK surfing accident at the Roxy Pro France has sent Australian world tour surfer Keely Andrew to the sidelines for the remainder of the year.

Andrew, surfing in the elimination second round, was hit on the back of her knee by her board.

Andrew earlier this year finished second at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast and is currently ranked 15th on the world tour.

“The rail of my board hit the inside of my knee and caused a joint bleed, a non-displaced bone fracture of my kneecap, a bone bruise of my femur and a grade three rupture of my MCL,” Andrew said of her medical assessment.

Andrew had been hoping a top result in France would have requalified her for next year’s world tour.

Stephanie Gilmore meanwhile can win her seventh world crown in France with a victory. The only person able to prevent her winning the world tour this year is American Lakey Peterson.
