IT’S CODE RED AT NIGHTQUARTER
THE Gold Coast is trying to sweeten up strawberry farmers still hurting after being sabotaged by needles in their fruit.
NightQuarter Helensvale director Michelle Christoe said Saturday’s Strawberry Festival is their biggest fundraiser to date.
“We expect to be able to raise $5000 to provide directly to the Queensland Strawberry Farmers Association through charity buckets,” she said.
“100 per cent of sales proceeds from the pop-ups at the front entry selling strawberries, and strawberry products will go towards the fundraiser.”
More than 500 kilograms of strawberries are expected to be consumed.
“We have over 40 products available – from a strawberry unicorn ice cream sandwich, strawberries dipped in chocolate, strawberry and Nutella pizzas, strawberry salad, and strawberry martinis,” she said.
“Locals are passionate about supporting our farmers.
“To have this type of sabotage on their industry is devastating.”
