Chinese are taking over
OFFICIALS in Cambridge sparked a row after warning the historic British city risks being “submerged” by groups of Chinese tourists.
They are planning to break up clumps of visitors because they make streets hard to navigate. Emma Thorton, of Visit Cambridge, said “many visitors, particularly from China, arrive in large groups”, adding it was “a concern” for residents.
Councillor John Hipkin said: “Tourism in this city is simply unsustainable. It’s at risk of being submerged by visitors.” But tour operator Dan Freeman said the claims bordered on “being racist”.
