TWEED Heads are the latest club to buy a franchise in the rich Ultimate Bowls Championsh­ip.

Aussie legend Kelvin Kerkow will spearhead the team along with Queensland representa­tive Kurt Brown.

Their third player will come via the draft, which is open for registrati­ons.

Registered players for the draft who are not successful in being picked up by a team will go into the draw to play in a wildcard team at each of the three events.

The $500,000 Ultimate Bowls Championsh­ip, which features three-bowl pairs in 25minute matches over five ends, begins in April next year.

Kerkow travelled to Mackay on the weekend and won the Northern Beaches Fours for the second year in a row.

Tweed’s Clinton Bailey teamed with Paul O’Brien from the Sunshine Coast to win the $6000 Hamilton Asean Power Pairs.

CLUB Helensvale will host the Queensland Champion of Club Champion finals on Saturday and Sunday with men’s and women’s fours.

Men’s and women’s pairs will be played on Monday and Tuesday. The singles are on Wednesday and Thursday.

SEAN Ingham, from Broadbeach, was the best performed of the interstate raiders in the $100,000 Everest Singles at Dudley Park Bowls Club in Mandurah, Western Australia.

There were many upsets in the event with internatio­nal stars knocked out early.

Ingham made the quarterfin­als where he held game but lost in a thriller 24-25.

Russell Bates took out the $50,000 first prize.

RYAN Bester represente­d Queensland and Broadbeach in the Australian Champion of Club Champion Singles in Tasmania where he finished fifth.

The event was won by Lee Schraner from Tasmania while Kylie Whitehead from Victoria won the women’s event.

ALAN Law and Paul Staggard Jr defeated Dale-McWhinney Shilling ton and Eric Johann es in one semi-final of the Gold Coast Tweed District Men’s Pairs at Tweed Heads.

The other semi between Matt Lucas and Nathan Rice versus Max Jaffray and Kurt Brown is on Tuesday, October 23, at Tweed Heads.

AUSTRALIAN Jackaroos star Lynsey Clarke and husband Brad have welcomed the arrival of their second child Harvey Reeve Clarke. He weighed in at 3714 grams (8lb 3oz).
