Apology on behalf of ‘the few’ taxi industry slackers

- SHANE SMITH, FIRST CLASS TAXIS

ROY Grace, as a taxi owner and operator on the Gold Coast I am absolutely disgusted in the way you were treated (GCB, 23/10).

No one should be instructed to another taxi.

In fact, the driver of any taxi should be out of their cab assisting you with your groceries both into the cab and out of the cab when you arrive at your destination.

I can not offer any viable excuse that justifies the actions of a few. I can assure you I will vouch for every driver in the fleet that I manage.

They treat their customers with the respect, care and compassion they deserve and expect.

I have sent numerous emails to the Mayor, GCCC Transport Division as well as local councillors pleading with them to place taxi ranks in more accessible areas.

The continual moving of taxi ranks to obscure places, non-wheelchair compliant areas or to areas with huge walking distances between public transport hubs has been a common issue with this council.

They continually ignore our concerns and place the ranks where they see fit.

Again on behalf of the local taxi industry I apologise and please do not let this be the way you judge our drivers in your future journeys.

They provide a 24/7 service to the community that ensures the youngest to the eldest, wheelchair-bound and disabled, as well as tourists and revellers arrive safely at their destinations.
