THERE’S ONLY ONE WAY TO COOLY OFF

- SALLY COATES

THE Gold Coast is forecast to melt under its hottest day in six months today, with temperatures tipped to hit 30 degrees Celsius – and Camila Flores plans to spend it at her favourite beach.

The 23-year-old from Peru has been studying on the Gold Coast for almost two years and considers Coolangatta beach home.

“Whenever I get the day off, I come down here as it’s my favourite beach on the Coast,” she said.

The last time the temperature reached 30C on the Coast was April 16, and after the recent wet spell experts predict the days to be sticky.

“It looks like it’ll be quite humid from now, it’ll be generally pretty sticky until at least the end of the weekend,” said Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh.

“Generally humidity makes it feel hotter than it actually is. Humidity is up around 65-75 per cent for the next four days and usually anywhere above 65 is where it gets uncomfortable.”

Temperatures will hover in the high 20Cs and low 30Cs until next week. The coldest it will get during the day is 19C.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Michael Knepp said it was a sign of what was to come.

“These temperatures are above average, especially Friday and especially inland,” he said.

Rain is forecast to return to the Coast on Monday.
