Woman bit guard
A GOLD Coast woman bit a security guard so hard she drew blood and then ripped a handful of hair out of a woman’s scalp at a Surfers nightclub, a court was told.
The woman, aged 22, pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of being drunk and disorderly.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Erin Livingstone told the court the woman entered the Underground Nightclub for free on May 18 this year under a one-time promotional deal.
When she tried to re-enter just before 1am she was told she had to pay. She refused to do so and ran past security.
Sen-Const Livingstone said security asked her to leave but she refused.
Ms Livingstone said during the struggle she bit one of the security guards on the bicep.
“The defendant has broken the skin resulting in blood loss and bruising,” she said.
The security guard attempted to push the girl away, but was unsuccessful. He was forced to take a week off work and undergo disease testing.
During the struggle the woman grabbed a handful of hair from a woman standing near her at an ATM, the court was told.
The victim showed police a bald spot from the attack but police had no evidence to determine whether the hair loss was permanent.
Barrister David Cole said the defendant was suffering from a number of mental health issues, including anxiety and depression.
He said she also took part in a blood test to alleviate the victim’s fear of contracting a disease and was willing to pay compensation.
Magistrate John Costanzo gave the woman a two-year probation order and a 200hour community service order, to be completed within 12 months. Mr Costanzo ordered the defendant pay $3000 to the victim of the biting and $1000 to the victim of the hair-pulling. No conviction was recorded.
