HARRIET’S HONOUR: NORTHCLIFFE STAR EARNS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP POST

-

HARRIET Brown says she has the world in her sights after the BMD Northcliffe surf lifesaver was named captain for the Australian squad.

A veteran in the NutriGrain series and 2017 champion, Brown has added national skipper to her honours list for next month’s Life Saving Team ahead of the Lifesaving World Championships to be held in Adelaide.

Despite the accolade, the 28-year-old said the highlight was mingling with a powerful Aussie line-up.

“This week’s camp has brought together so many amazing athletes,” Brown said.

“It’s a great team and I am really excited about working and training alongside everyone to take on the rest of the world.”

The team will regroup in just a few weeks to head to South Australia.

The 12-person squad is made up of 2018 Nutri-Grain Ironman Series Champion and reigning Molokai Board Riding champion Matt Bevilacqua (Kurrawa), as well as 2018 Australian

Ironman champion and Surf Sports Athlete of the Year Kendrick Louis (Manly).

Two-time Aussies gold medallist and Coolangatta Gold champion Georgia Miller (BMD) joins pool stars Matt Davis (Currumbin) and Prue Davies (Currumbin) in the squad.

Maroochydore’s Sam Bell will take part in his third World Championships, along with young gun Jake Smith (Trigg Island).

Chelsea Gillett (Currumbin) and Mariah Jones (Tweed

Heads and Coolangatta) also won spots.

National coach Kurt Wilson said he was delighted to have so many talents together.

“Culturally the team came together and worked so well, whether it was on the beach, the pool or oceans,” Wilson said.

“I think we were able to close off camp with great optimism and synergy and I am honoured to be able to work with such a great group of people leading into the World Championships.”
