- MICHAEL SAUNDERS

TRIBUTES have flowed for a young Gold Coast father and respected lifesaver whose sudden death has shocked friends, family and the city’s surf lifesaving community.

Nicholas Dornan, 36 suffered a major cardiac arrest on Sunday. Family members decided to switch off his life support yesterday.

The devoted husband, loving father and respected patrol captain leaves two young daughters, Summer and Lillian, and wife Kat Dornan.

Ms Dornan yesterday paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband.

“He was just a beautiful, kind, generous person,” she said. “He had a contagious personality and a love for life. He loved his two beautiful girls so much, he was so proud of them. His heart was just too big.”

Ms Dornan also thanked staff at the Gold Coast University Hospital who battled to save the young father’s life.

“We are so grateful to the wonderful paramedics and hospital staff,” she said. “They never gave up.”

Younger brother and business partner, James Dornan, said his brother’s legacy would live on through his two beautiful daughters while older brother Charles remembered Nicholas as the “life of the party” who would “captivate an audience with his infectious smile and hilarious laugh”.

“I lost my best friend and my younger brother who was so loved by so many people. I will always love and miss you my brother and your memory will never be forgotten,” he wrote.
