WE’RE THE STAR OF THE SHOW

- JEREMY PIERCE

THE Gold Coast is preparing to serve up the Queensland tourism industry’s night of nights for the first time since 2009.

The Queensland Tourism Awards will be held at Star Casino on Friday, November 16, ending a run of nine years where the ceremony was held in Brisbane.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Daniel Gschwind said it was time to start taking the awards to different corners of the state.

“We wanted to start rotating the awards to regional locations as a way of reflecting the importance of our sector across the state – this has proved a winning decision with unprecedented interest, a soldout event, and a record number of more than 170 entries across 28 categories,” he said.

“We are delighted to host the awards on the Gold Coast at The Star, which has played a major role in Queensland tourism this year by opening its new luxury suite hotel The Darling, being the first official partner of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and hosting the 60th TV Week Logie Awards.”

Yesterday, chefs at The Star dished out a trial run of the menu for the awards, with fresh regional produce to play a starring role.
