STUNT RUINS RACE FOR PUB PUNTERS

- MICHAEL SAUNDERS michael.saunders@news.com.au

A SERIAL pest renowned for creating controversial videos angered Melbourne Cup punters at a Gold Coast pub when he switched off the projector showing the big race.

Self-described “social media entertainer” Shammi Prasad sent patrons at the Parkwood Tavern into a rage when the screen turned blank.

In a video uploaded to his 5.7 million social media followers, Prasad is seen standing on a chair and using a universal remote control to turn off the large screen when the horses were deep into the straight.

“I’m going to stop the race that stops the nation,” he gloated at the start of the three-minute clip.

After pulling off the stunt, Prasad is seen trying to flee the venue amid a howl of boos from patrons. He is later restrained by an angry punter.

While a staff member attempted to turn on the projector, Prasad managed to sneak out of the venue, leaving his cameraman to face the anger of the fans.

A Parkwood Tavern staff member confirmed the prank took place, but would not comment on whether any action would be taken against Prasad.

Queensland Police attended the venue but a police spokeswoman said the incident was not reported.

The prank was the latest in a long list of stunts by Prasad, who oversees a number of viral content social media pages.

His previous exploits include sneaking into this year’s Splendour in the Grass music festival, tying his friend to a mattress on the side of Bermuda St, and BASE jumping off the Q1 Tower.
